Priority Research Areas


The Scientific Council at its previous meetings identified four priority research areas:

  • Poultry
  • Food security and food sanitation
  • Promotion of local breeds
  • Quality of veterinary drugs.

Other issues are explored as they either:

  • Receive external funding,
  • Adress a pressing local issue. These generally affect reproduction, milk production, animal models of delayed growth, pathology and therapy

More specific topics are also investigated:

  • Bovine and caprine dairy products
  • Bovine and caprine genetic improvement
  • Control of bovine and caprine sexual cycles
  • The traditional art of oestrus detection through the practice of artificial insemination in cows
  • The development of an experimental model of intrauterine growth delay in rats
  • The effect of perinatal food restriction on caprine sexual maturation and breeding performance
  • A clinicopathological and etiological study of intranasal enzootic tumors, in sheep in Senegal,
  • Mastitis and associated pathologies
  • Quality of food of animal origin (meat, milk, eggs and egg products, fishery products ...)
  • Traditional medicinal African herbs Research priorities allow colleagues to form research teams based on affinity for a given topic.
