Parasitology - Parasitic Diseases - Applied Zoology

Curriculum Objectives

Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases

This course is designed for second and third year students. Theoretical courses revolve essentially around tropical diseases. Emphasis is placed on knowing causative agents, epidemiology, understanding the pathogenesis and its consequences, and implementing diagnosis and control of various parasitic diseases. This course also provides general concepts and comparisons with other climates, broadening student’s knowlege. The tutorials offered to second and third year students are based on the diagnosis of parasites. Parasitology clinics are aimed at third and fourth year students who have already assimilated the basic concepts of semiology and general pathology. These clinics allow students to develop practical knowledge about inpatient or outpatient animals in private veterinary practices, where they make diagnoses and prescribe appropriate therapy.

Applied Zoology

Zoology for first year students is very practical. Theory is essentially geared towards knowledge of which animals are useful and harmful to man, domestic animals and food supply. Some knowledge of terrestrial and aquatic wildlife management is also present. Work practices are based solely on the identification of useful and harmful animals.
